Although Asamoah Gyan, Ghana's all-time greatest scorer, acknowledges Andre Ayew has made significant contributions to the Black Stars, he believes the captain must realize that the squad needs to shift course.
Head coach Otto Addo of Ghana stated on Wednesday that Ayew has been left off of his team's 26-man roster for the country's forthcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Mali and the Central African Republic.Despite being named for the games against Uganda and Nigeria in March, the 34-year-old was left off the roster for the two matches the following month.
Reactions to the decision to exclude him have been conflicting. But Gyan feels that it's appropriate now as it's time to move on.
"Andre has done so much for Ghana, in my opinion. He joined the national team in 2007, and since then, he has been a constant. "He is the player with the most caps," he said.
"I believe the coach has already made up his mind. I personally played with Andre, and he has done everything for Ghana; but, we must move on from this circumstance. The coach has already made up his mind."
After returning to France, Ayew had a successful season with Le Havre, where he scored five goals in 19 games and helped the team avoid relegation.
